France overpowered Poland 3-1 in a thrilling match at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha to advance to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Olivier Giroud scored the opening goal, becoming France's all-time men's top scorer, while Kylian Mbappé added two more to secure the victory for Les Bleus.
The match was played in front of a sold-out crowd of 40,000 fans. France started the game brightly and took the lead in the 44th minute when Giroud headed home a cross from Antoine Griezmann. Poland equalized in the 56th minute through Robert Lewandowski, but Mbappé restored France's lead just three minutes later with a stunning strike from outside the box.
Mbappé sealed the win for France in the 90th minute with another brilliant goal. He received the ball on the left flank and dribbled past two defenders before firing a low shot into the far corner of the net.
The victory means that France will face England in the quarter-finals on Saturday, December 10.
