However, West Germany, who had never won a major title before, ultimately emerged victorious in what became known as the "Miracle of Bern."

The match started with Hungary dominating possession and creating numerous chances. In the 6th minute, they hit the post and narrowly missed taking the lead. This moment proved to be crucial as, just minutes later, Helmut Rahn scored the winning goal for West Germany. It was a moment that shocked the world and gave birth to one of the most famous underdog stories in sports history.
The Road to the Final
Hungary's dominance in the tournament was evident from the start. In their first two games, they thrashed South Korea 9-0 and West Germany 8-3. They then went on to defeat Uruguay and Brazil to reach the final. West Germany, on the other hand, had a more difficult path. They lost their opening match to Hungary but managed to qualify for the knockout stage by defeating Turkey and Yugoslavia. In the semifinals, they upset Austria 6-1.
